[HLMainPic] Gray was a 'gentleman ranker' Ed. at Rugby School who practised as a solicitor. He served as Liberal MP for Oxford 1922-24 but was unseated following a corruption scandal (of which he was eventually acquitted). He enlisted in 1916 & served with the 8th (S) Bn. Royal Berkshire Regt., was for some time attached to the O&BLI, & with III Corps Intelligence. Interesting account of training & posting to France, Battle of Passchendaele 1917, March Retreat 1918 &c. After the war (until elected to Paliament) he worked as a farm labourer & tramped (he published 'The Tramp: His Meaning & Being' in 1931). Lacking both front & rear free endpapers o/w VG & rare.
