A series of more or less intimate, personally informed episodes in the history of the 42nd Royal Highlanders of Canada, compiled by the battalion's Padre (and published anonymously) as, "during one of those periods of chronic idleness which fall between Sundays, and in which, as you often assured him, he hardly justifies existence, when it occurred to him that it would be a very great pleasure to himself and perhaps of interest to you if he were to set down some of the stories of the old days and have them sent out as a kind of tonic to recollection in the Christmas Season... The result is this strange pot-pourri of memories... it aims to do one thing and one only, namely, to awaken in your minds incidents, both grave and gay, which you may have forgotten and in remembering which, you and I together will be glad and proud that we once belonged to the 42nd." the resulting 30 pages contain masses of information in small print, pleasingly presented in patterned brown paper covered boards with white cloth spine strip and paper lettering label to front. Remarkably uncommon given that it was sent out as a gift to former comrades. VG throughout. Just two copies on JISC/Library Hub, at National Museums of Scotland & National Library of Scotland.
