Charles Lister was educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford. He was Third Secretary at the British Embassy in Constantinople in 1914; returned to the United Kingdom and obtained a commission in the Middlesex Yeomanry; transferred to Hood Battalion, Royal Naval Division, landed at Gallipoli on 29th April 1915 and was wounded the following day then hospitalized at the Blue Sisters Convent in Malta. He returned to duty in June, was wounded again in August and died of wounds on 28th August 1915 at Mudros. He was twenty-seven and is buried in East Mudros Military Cemetery. He was Mentioned in Despatches. Contains a memoir, interesting letters from Turkey and Gallipoli and recollections of his time at Eton and Oxford. Orig. blue cloth, gilt, somewhat stained 7 worn, sound, with ownership inscrip. & booplate of Pamela Glenconner & later book label of Anne Powell.
