[HLMainPic] Joined Royal Fusiliers 1899 & served with them in India & Africa until 1914 (apart from 1902-06 with KAR which is dealt with in a separate work). He was a uniquely able officer, but intolerant & critical of systems & individuals. He travelled widely & proved himself a resourceful soldier, adventurer & spy with a talent for intelligence work. He was in charge of intelligence in East Africa from the inception of the campaign in 1914 'til late 1916 & his account gives a valuable commentary on the campaign & allied commanders. From April 1917 he was GSO2 Int. to EEF & was in charge of security & camouflage in France in 1918. Orig. red cloth, VG in sl. chipped & sunned dw.   £35
