GERMAN TRENCH MAP: Bully Grenay. 1:5000.
Fldg. paper map, 63x53cm approx., showing detailed British trench systems around Loos with a large number of contemp. German operational markings & notes of targets &c., very dilapidated, largely through original use, with loss at left edge & possibly lower edge, with pin holes where the map has been attached to an artillery board - this as opposed to the wall of an office or dugout, as it bears a number of candlewax splashes where presumably German officers were poring over it in gloomy conditions. Worn but evocative.
