Lavish & detailed history of what may be termed 'India's Household Cavalry', with detailed statements of officers' services, lists of Native officers &c. "...a detailed work which certainly ranks as a formal history... The Bodyguard took part in many actions, & these are described in some detail... principal campaigns were Mysore (1791-1792), Java (1811), Mahratta Wars (1815-18), First Burmese War (1824-26), Gwalior (1843), Sikh Wars (1845-46 & 1848-49), & the Burma War of 1885-87." - Perkins. Orig. red cloth, gilt titles with regimental device to front (with battle honours for Ava, Java, Maharajpore, Moodkee, Ferozeshuhar, Alliwall & Subraon (sic). Sp. a little bumped, cloth somewhat marked, rubbed at extremities, generally VG & rare with ink. inscrip. to ffep: "Officers' Mess Viceroy's Bodyguard 3.12/10" & an inscription on the half title, by an unidentified oficer: "Gave my d.b. 500 Express rifle to Bodyguard - Jafar Hussein probably took possession. He had been responsible for providing a tiger at least when the Viceroy came to shoot."
