Wartime letters written to his parents. At the beginning of WW2 the author registered as a Conscientious Objector; however, when called up he joined the Buffs & was commissioned, serving with the 7th Bn. (aka 141st Regt. Royal Armoured Corps) in Normandy. He was a Liaison Officer during the attack on Le Havre & learning of the German request to evacuate the citizens before the battle being refused, himself refused to participate in further operations, was court-martialled, cashiered & sentenced to one year in prison with hard labour. He was a son of the 13th Earl Home & younger brother of Alec Douglas-Home, stood for parliament (Liberal) on a number of occasions. Orig. green cloth, without dw.
