Spotting for artillery was the foremost role of Army Air Corps 'Air OP' machines, but much more intelligence on enemy positions & movements was gathered & was of invaluable use to operational planners. The author, seconded from the Dorset Yeomanry, raised 658 Air OP Sqdrn. RAF & commanded it throughout operations in Normandy & NW Europe, 1944-45, which are described in detail. VG in dw.
