[HLMainPic] Crum, a regular officer who had served in the Boer War was recalled in 1914 & served with 8th KRRC (14th [Light] Div., K1) in training & on the Western Front 1915-16 inc. Fire Attack at Hooge, further service in the Ypres salient then sniping at Arras &c. 1915-16. Formed the 41st Brigade Sniping School at Acq in May 1916. After a period lecturing at the Senior Officers' School at Aldershot, Crum returned to France to organise a sniping school under the auspices of GHQ. A very informative account of snipers & sniper training on the Western Front, including lengthy extracts from letters written while on active service. Appendix I relates a lecture on scouting to 150 officers at Aldershot: "During the next few days is to bring it about that more Bosches maybe killed and more of good fellows spared." Appendix II Final results of experience 1918 with course syllabus. Appendix III work with boy scouts July 1918 to July 1919. Includes interesting photos. of sniping schools in Aldershot & France, alongside sketches of loopholes &c.
