[HLMainPic] Lieutenant Victor Alexander Ewart, Royal Navy, was the only child of Major-General Sir Henry and Lady Evelyn Ewart. Born in 1891, he was educated at the Naval Colleges at Osborne and Dartmouth. By 1914 he was serving in HMS Queen Mary; was in action at Heligoland Bight and went down with the ship (commanding X Turret) during the Battle of Jutland on 31st May 1916. His only grave is the sea and he is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. He was twenty-five years old. A memoir by his mother describing the events of his life and naval career; also various letters and contributions from naval officers describing services of HMS Queen Mary at Jutland and elsewhere.
