TRENCH MAP:
Passchendaele. 1:5,000.
Fldg. paper map, 56x43cm approx., being an exceptionally clear & detailed diagram of the village of Passchendaele & its immediate environs (Crest Farm &c.), with notes on roads, streams, water supply & a number of individual buildings, based on information supplied by refugees. Seventeen individual dwellings or places of business are identified on the map & described in the accompanying notes. For example, the vicarage, estaminet, curate's house &c. It is noted of the dairy that "Cellar has field of fire towards the South-east as far as DROOGENBROODHOEK and MOORSLEDE roads. View to West less extended." Much other details. Printed by 5th Survey Co. RE, 31/7/1917. Interestingly, in view of paper economy, this sheet is printed on the back of a 1:5,000 map of Greenland Hill, near Arras, undated but with named trenches.
