[HLMainPic] Rare & interesting memoirs of mobilization as a subaltern with the 4th Hussars at the Curragh in 1914, Retreat from Mons, advance to the Marne then operations in Flanders until wounded by a shell at Hollebeke towards the end of September. Containing some interesting observations & much of interest on the work of the cavalry in 1914. Author was Major Hon. Leonard Harrison Cripps, who served on the staff following his participation with his regiment in the opening campaign; awarded CBE in 1918, was 3rd son of 1st Baron Parmoor; a shipowner & chairman of Elder Dempster Lines from 1941. Orig. white buckram, gilt title to front board, VG with several loosely inserted curings from a regimental journal or somesuch listing officers embarking at Dublin, 13th August 1914, nominal roll of officers wounded during the war (including ther author, listed as wounded on 2nd Nov. 1914, & a list of those granted awards.
