Jeffery Eardley Marston, author & translator (1887-1945) was a regular gunner officer wounded in August 1914 & awarded the DSO & MC in 1917, achieving the rank of major. The author here describes his second stint at the Front, with a New Army battery including the battle of the Somme, 1916. Although a Regular, & therefore biased, he admired the New Army men with whom he served during the Battle of the Somme. Orig. red cloth, titled in black, sp. sl. sunned & small chip at head o/w VG & unusually inscribed by the author: "To I. E-W who wrote to her (then) unknown cousin who was in jail From The Author / March 1917." See illustrations on our website.
