[HLMainPic] Author commanded the Bedfordshire Yeomanry in France 1914-17 inc. Battles of Loos & the Somme. Orig. red cloth, gilt, VG with bookplate of Cuthbert Headlam & author's typed note on his notepaper from Little Park, Brimpton, neatly tipped in: "My dear Cuthbert, Many thanks for your commendation, though I hope you are to be counted among the more partial critics. Yous, [signed in ink] S. Peel." Nice assocation in that Headlam was a pre-war Bedfordshire Yeoman, mobilised in 1914 & served under Peel in France until transferred to the Staff. (Col. Sir Cuthbert Headlam, MP, DSO, OBE, TD, DL, Bedfordshire Yeomanry & General Staff, become the BEF's 'principal doctrine writer' & authored "The Guards Division in the Great War." He was also Editor of the Army Quarterly, a Barrister, Conservative politician, Parliamentary Secretary to several departments & Privy Counsellor.)   £65
