[HLMainPic] Henry Raymond Preece was born in 1898, son of Henry Charles and Alice Preece of Southwood Avenue, Highgate and educated at Highgate School. He was commissioned in the King's Royal Rifle Corps (Special Reserve) in 1915, aged seventeen. Went to the 4th Battalion in Salonika, 1917, and with it to France in 1918 where he was killed leading his company in an attack near Le Catalet on 8th October. At the time of his death he was twenty years old and he is buried in Guizancourt Farm Cemetery, Gouy. Contains a short memoir, poems (including war poetry) and extracts from a diary written whilst on active service between July 1917-May 1918 in which he describes his surroundings and experiences.Ed. at Highgate & commissioned in the KRRC Special Reserve in 1915, aged 17.
