The Eton & Oxford educated soldier-politician author (who was employed by Churchill at the Colonial Office 1906-08), resigned his commission in the RFA in India in 1903 & travelled across Persia, from Bushire onwards to Shiraz, Tehran &c., the Caspian & Russia & leaves a detailed account of the places he visited & the peoples he encountered.
