Contains sixty-six articles written by the respected historian Tim Ash (1933-2012) over a 30 year period. The vast majority relate to the 'British' period in India, with emphasis on events of the Indian Mutiny, but also articles on campaigns in China & the Arabian Gulf (where the author had served with the Trucial Oman Scouts). Tim Ash was a gifted storyteller & most diligent researcher who teased out much fascinating detail on what would otherwise have remained - in some cases - relatively obscure events. Among the many pieces included are: The Bengal Yeomanry Cavalry; The Meerut District Volunteer Force; The Sappers & Miners at Meerut 1857; The War with Baba Saheb; The Commissariat Department, Lucknow Residency, 1857; The Ragged Fusiliers; An Opium Agent in the Indian Mutiny. Alongside further articles on the educational establishments of the HEIC (Addiscombe, Mayo College & Haileybury), the Frontier of India & elsewhere are several handy guides to the India Office Records & their potential for research. Orig. blue cloth, gilt, VG in dw & slipcase. 100 copies printed. Out of print but a few copies remain to hand. See illustrations on our website.
