Appointed surgeon in the EIC shortly before the Mutiny (seeing much service in it, Relief of Lucknow &c.). Distinguished career also included China 1860, Bhootan, Egypt &c. & culminated in the Black Mountain Expedition in 1890, by which time he was Principal Medical Officer of the P.F.F.
